Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has categorically dismissed speculation regarding Field Marshal Asim Munir’s alleged ambitions to become the President of Pakistan, calling such claims baseless.
In an interview with The Economist, the DG ISPR clarified that the reports circulating about Field Marshal Asim Munir aspiring to the presidency hold no merit.
Responding to a question about Pakistan’s potential reaction to Indian military aggression, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated, “This time, we will begin from the east, the response will start deep inside India.” He added that India must understand it can be targeted anywhere.

These comments come amid a wave of speculation on social media. Some weeks ago, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had addressed the issue, saying, “We know who is behind the campaign targeting the President, Prime Minister, and Army Chief, and we also know why it is being done and who stands to benefit from it.”
He emphasized that there had been no discussion about the President resigning, nor is there any indication that the Army Chief has any intention or desire to assume the presidency.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari also refuted speculation about President Asif Ali Zardari, stating, “He is the constitutionally elected President of Pakistan. These rumors hold no truth, those spreading them clearly have no understanding of the Constitution or the law.”
