According to official sources, at least three civilians, including two children, were killed and three others seriously injured after alleged cross-border shelling by Afghan Taliban forces in Bajaur district.

Security sources said the incident took place in the border area of Katkot, where shells hit a house in the village of Malik Shaheen. The attack was described as unprovoked, targeting the civilian population.

As a result of the shelling, a woman and two children from the same family were killed, while three others sustained critical injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Sources further claimed that Afghan Taliban had recently been attempting to facilitate the infiltration of a militant group into Pakistan, which was foiled by timely action from Pakistani security forces.

Following the failed infiltration attempt, the shelling in Katkot was allegedly carried out in retaliation, according to security officials.

In response, Pakistan Army reportedly launched immediate counter-fire, destroying the gun position from where the attack originated across the border.

Security sources added that multiple positions of Afghan Taliban along the border adjoining Bajaur were targeted during the retaliatory action, resulting in heavy casualties on the opposing side.

Residents of Bajaur condemned the incident, terming it a cowardly act, and expressed solidarity with the security forces.

Officials reiterated that security forces remain vigilant and committed to protecting civilian lives and ensuring lasting peace in the region.

They further stated that targeting civilian populations reflects hostile intent and desperation on the part of those involved.
