A woman was shot dead over a marriage dispute in the Hanjal area within the jurisdiction of City Police Station. Following the incident, the victim’s family and local residents placed the body on the road and staged a strong protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.

According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Amir Khan locality of Hanjal, where the alleged accused, Kashif son of Qismat Khan, opened fire near the victim’s house, killing Salma Bibi, wife of Hameedullah, and fled the scene.

Initial investigations indicate that the accused was pressuring the family for a forced marriage proposal for the victim’s daughter, and the shooting took place after the proposal was rejected.

Police have registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s husband, Hameedullah, and have launched efforts to arrest the suspect.

After the incident, the victim’s family and local residents placed the body on Bannu–Mandan Road near Tarang Graveyard, blocked traffic, and staged a protest. Tribal elders and trader representatives also participated in the protest.

Later, the protest ended after successful negotiations between the police and protesters. SHO City Police Station, Riaz Khan, assured that the accused would be arrested soon.
