A surge in kidnapping incidents has created panic across Bannu district, where three police personnel were abducted by unidentified armed men over the past four days.
All three were later recovered through the efforts of local elders, though the repeated incidents have raised serious concerns about law and order in the region.
According to police sources, the latest incident occurred in the People Bazaar area, where two policemen; Naheedullah and Eid Muhammad, were kidnapped by unidentified men while returning from polio duty.
Their recovery was made possible after negotiations led by local elders and a prominent religious scholar. However, the abductors did not return the weapons they had seized from the policemen.
Earlier, on Saturday, another police constable, Rasool Zaman, was abducted from Neelgaran People Daud Shah area but was also freed following mediation efforts by local negotiators.
Sources further revealed that a few days prior, four residents of Lakki Marwat had also been abducted from the same locality. Three of them were killed, while one was released.
The recurring abductions have sparked a new wave of insecurity in the area. Residents have urged the government and law enforcement agencies to take swift, effective, and concrete measures to curb the rising incidents of kidnapping and killings in Bannu and restore citizens’ sense of safety.
