Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has delayed a payment of Rs 90 million to the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, even though the university had completed its assigned work.
According to sources, in 2022 PESCO assigned UET Peshawar to conduct recruitment tests for positions ranging from Scale 5 to 17.
The testing process covered 24 categories, with approximately 175,000 candidates participating. The university carried out the tests in phases and handed over the results to PESCO.
After the tests concluded, the Ministry of Water and Power imposed a six-month ban on recruitments.
However, interviews for SDO positions were later allowed, and candidates were recruited.

Sources at UET say the university performed its duties with honesty and accuracy, and PESCO also acknowledged that the responsibility for conducting the tests and compiling the results was properly fulfilled by the university.
Despite this, PESCO has still not made the payment, which the university finds incomprehensible.
The university has approached a lower court to recover the amount, where the case is currently pending.
The Ministry of Water and Power has directed that the matter be raised in the Board of Directors (BoD) meeting, and the BoD has expressed willingness to approve the payment. In the coming days, it will become clear when PESCO will release the funds to UET Peshawar.
