Two new cases of polio have been confirmed in Lakki Marwat and North Waziristan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) said on Tuesday. With these cases, the total number of polio cases reported across the country this year has risen to 26.

The EOC stressed that polio is an incurable disease that can cause lifelong disability, urging parents to ensure that all children under the age of five receive polio drops in every campaign to protect them from the virus.

According to the EOC, high-quality polio vaccination campaigns are currently underway in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to protect children from the disease.

It further stated that new polio campaigns began today in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bajaur, and Upper Dir, during which more than 1.685 million children will be administered polio drops.

The EOC appealed to parents to cooperate fully and ensure their children are vaccinated in every campaign.
