According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a strong spell of western weather system is expected to affect the upper parts of the country from January 21 to 24, which may result in rain and snowfall in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PDMA stated that due to the expected rainfall and snowfall, water levels in the Kabul River and its tributaries may rise, posing a risk of flash floods on January 22 and 23.

The districts where PDMA has warned of possible flooding include Upper and Lower Swat, Upper and Lower Chitral, Buner, Shangla, Upper and Lower Dir, Malakand, Bajaur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Haripur, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai Palas, Mardan, and Swabi.

PDMA has also directed the district administrations of Peshawar, Nowshera, and Charsadda to remain on alert, particularly advising residents living near the Kabul River and surrounding streams to exercise caution.

The administration has been instructed to identify low-lying and vulnerable areas, ensure the timely relocation of people to safer places, and guarantee the availability of food and medicines in shelters.

Farmers and livestock owners have been advised to move their animals away from low-lying areas near the Kabul River and streams.

PDMA has further directed relevant departments to restrict unnecessary traffic in low-lying and high-risk areas and to remain prepared for the immediate restoration of roads in case of any emergency.
