Rain and snowfall are expected across various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today until December 5, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to direct all district administrations to ensure precautionary measures in advance.
According to a PDMA advisory, intermittent rain accompanied by thunderstorms and snowfall over the mountains is likely on December 4 and 5 in Upper and Lower Dir, Upper and Lower Chitral, Swat, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai Palas, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur and Mohmand. Rain has also been forecast for Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North and South Waziristan, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
The advisory warns that rainfall may cause slippery roads in hilly regions of Abbottabad, Battagram, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Khyber, Kohistan, Kolai Palas, Kurram, Malakand, Mansehra, Mohmand, Orakzai, Shangla, Swat, Torghar and North Waziristan. Weak structures, electric poles, billboards and solar panels may also be at risk of damage.
PDMA has instructed district administrations to clear drainage systems, ensure timely public advisories for residents and travellers, and make emergency services, medical aid and essential supplies available through relevant departments.
Farmers and livestock owners have been advised to shift crops and animals to safe locations, while the public has been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather.
PDMA said its Emergency Operation Center is fully operational and citizens can contact helpline 1700 in case of any emergency.
