Thousands of people from Bara were sent to Peshawar in a convoy to participate in a peaceful protest organised by the Bara Political Alliance, led by the alliance’s leadership.

As the protesters reached Bara Road near Pushtakhara Chowk, police blocked the route, creating tension in the area.

When the demonstrators attempted to move forward, police resorted to tear gas shelling, affecting not only the protesters but also students of nearby private educational institutions, including Afridi Model School and College and Sir Syed Model School.

President of the Bara Political Alliance, Hashim Khan, said the protest was being held against the deteriorating security situation in Bara and to demand the dignified return of displaced people from Tirah Valley.

According to him, the protesters would stage a peaceful demonstration at Suri Pul in Peshawar and continue their protest call despite any obstacles.

Meanwhile, sources said negotiations between the protesters and government representatives were also underway, while demonstrations continued at different locations with the participation of thousands of people from Bara and Tirah.
