During a dinner hosted by the White House Correspondents' Association in Washington, D.C., Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow and concern over a reported firing incident.
In a statement posted on X, the Prime Minister said he was deeply shocked by the unfortunate event. However, he noted with relief that U.S. President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and other attendees remained safe.

Meanwhile, President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari also reacted to the incident, expressing satisfaction over the safety of President Trump and the First Lady. He described the incident as a heinous act of terrorism.

According to U.S. media reports, the incident occurred during an event held at the Washington Hilton, where a gunshot-like sound suddenly triggered panic in the hall. Due to security concerns, Secret Service personnel immediately escorted President Trump to a secure location.
Sources said the event had just begun when President Trump was handed a note. A similar alert was also given to the White House spokesperson. Panic spread among attendees, and several people took cover under tables.

Approximately 2,600 people were present at the event. Eyewitnesses reported that during the chaos, security personnel drew their weapons, and the suspect was taken into custody.
Reports further stated that the attacker ran toward the magnetometer near the main entrance and targeted a Secret Service officer. Following the incident, security agencies cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.
