The Peshawar High Court has sought a response from the National Highways Authority (NHA) within two weeks on a petition challenging the collection of toll tax from government employees travelling on the Kohat–Peshawar Road.

Counsel for the petitioner, Advocate Saad Khan, informed the court that his client travels daily from Kohat to Peshawar to perform official duties and is required to pay toll tax repeatedly at toll plazas in both directions.

The petition argues that senior government officials and other privileged individuals are exempt from toll tax, while lower- and middle-grade government employees, despite receiving limited salaries, are compelled to bear this additional financial burden every day.

It further states that, in view of rising inflation, increasing fuel prices, and limited income, the daily collection of toll tax violates Articles 4, 14, 15, and 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan. The petitioner has requested the court to exempt low-paid government employees who commute daily for official duties from paying toll tax.

A bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmad and Justice Inamullah issued a written order directing the National Highways Authority (NHA) to submit its response within two weeks.
