Doctors in Peshawar have begun protests against the murder of Dr. Mehwish, while the Young Doctors Association (YDA) has announced a boycott of elective services in various public hospitals across southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Mardan Division.

The President of YDA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr. Asfandyar, said that the scope of the protest will gradually be expanded across the entire province. 

He stated that the protest is being carried out in phases, keeping patients’ difficulties in mind; however, emergency services will continue as usual.

According to the Young Doctors Association, the boycott will continue for OPDs and other elective services, except emergency care.

The organization stated that doctors and medical staff are facing insecurity, and incidents of violence in hospitals have increased concerns.

YDA President Dr. Asfandyar demanded the effective implementation of the Hospital Security Act. 

He said that the issue is no longer just about security, but about the protection of doctors’ lives.

He also criticized the provincial government, saying it has failed to provide adequate protection to doctors, which has led the medical community to take to the streets in protest.
