The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peace Jirga, held at the provincial assembly, drew wide participation from political leaders, tribal elders, and members of civil society, a rare moment of unity amid the province’s ongoing security and governance challenges.
Provincial Special Assistant on Information, Shafi Jan, thanked all participants for their presence and termed the event a significant milestone toward lasting peace and harmony in the province.
He praised Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi and Speaker Babar Saleem Swati for successfully hosting what he described as a “historic” gathering, expressing hope that it would pave the way for sustainable stability.
He noted that the 15-point declaration adopted at the conclusion of the jirga emphasized political harmony, security cooperation, and a joint strategy to eradicate terrorism. The declaration also called for stronger coordination between the federal and provincial governments to ensure peace across all districts.
However, while the event was hailed as a breakthrough, questions remain over how effectively its pledges will translate into action. The province has seen similar calls for peace in the past, yet sporadic violence and mistrust between communities have continued to test such commitments.
For now, the government insists it is determined to follow through. Shafi Jan reiterated that the provincial administration remains committed to Imran Khan’s vision of rule of law, justice, and public service, pledging to work with all stakeholders to make peace and development a shared reality across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
