At the Torkham border, the Frontier Corps (North) destroyed confiscated illegal and foreign-smuggled goods in 2025 by setting them on fire at the FC camp in Landi Kotal. 

According to the spokesperson, the destroyed items weighed around 43 tonnes and were valued at approximately Rs358 million. The consignment included medicines, mobile phones, foreign currency, soft drinks, cigarettes and other items.

During the ceremony, the Khyber Commandant Colonel Saeed Ahmed personally set the goods on fire, completing the destruction process. Senior security officials and customs officers were also present on the occasion. Official sources said the seized items were recovered during various anti-smuggling operations conducted on both sides of the Torkham border.

However, senior journalist Sudhir Ahmed Afridi expressed serious concerns over the practice of burning large quantities of goods in open fields. He said such actions are harmful to both the environment and human health. According to him, massive smoke emissions pollute the air and release toxic particles into the atmosphere, increasing the risk of respiratory and other diseases.

Sudhir Ahmed Afridi demanded that in the future, modern and environment-friendly methods should be adopted for the disposal of confiscated goods to protect public health and the environment.
