The recent devastating floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have not only displaced thousands of residents but have also left minority communities among the worst affected. In Buner and Swat districts, over 45 minority families, comprising hundreds of individuals, have been severely impacted and are still waiting for government assistance.

According to initial reports, Buner district alone has around 35 affected Sikh and Hindu families, while Swat’s Mingora area has 10 affected families belonging to Christian and Sikh communities. These families have suffered extensive damage to their homes and properties and remain in urgent need of relief.

Expressing concern over the situation, Member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly (MPA) from Bara and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader, Baba Ji Gorpal Singh, held meetings with senior officials to demand immediate relief for the flood victims.

He met with the Secretary Auqaf, Additional Secretary Relief, and Additional Secretary Finance to discuss the challenges faced by the affected minority families.

During these meetings, members of minority communities voiced serious complaints, stating that no Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) has visited the flood-hit areas so far, nor has the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) initiated the process of collecting data on the affected families.

In response, MPA Gorpal Singh urged PDMA to start data collection without delay and instructed relevant departments to conduct emergency visits to the impacted regions.

Speaking on the matter, Gorpal Singh stressed the need for collective efforts to overcome the natural disaster’s aftermath. He assured that he would continue his efforts for the complete rehabilitation of the victims and raise the issue at every possible forum if necessary.

For now, the affected minority families in Buner and Swat remain without governmen relief, anxiously waiting for help to arrive.
