An emergency meeting of the parliamentary party, chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, continued late into the night at Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad. The meeting held detailed discussions on the provincial budget for fiscal year 2026–27, the province’s constitutional and financial rights, and the current political situation.
The meeting decided that the 2026–27 budget would not be kept in surplus, keeping in view public interests and development needs. Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that 2026–27 would be a year of development, peace, and public prosperity for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and that the province would continue on the path of progress despite all challenges.
The parliamentary party also decided to form a special team of legal experts to examine constitutional and legal matters related to the provincial budget. The meeting was informed that the team would review possible constitutional and legal options and prepare a comprehensive legal strategy to safeguard the province’s constitutional rights.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to continue efforts at every level for the protection of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s constitutional, financial, and political rights. The parliamentary party decided to adopt both political and legal strategies against the federal government, stating that any attempt to influence the provincial budget or deprive the province of its rights would not be accepted.

The participants maintained that any reduction in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s development funds at the federal level, or any decision in this regard taken without consultation with the relevant leadership, would be unacceptable. They warned that any attempt to undermine the province’s rights would face strong political resistance from the provincial government.
The parliamentary party also strongly condemned the alleged use of force during a protest in Islamabad, describing it as contrary to democratic values. According to the meeting’s declaration, several lawmakers, including Mina Khan Afridi, Dr Hamid, Tufail Anjum, and Dawood Afridi, were injured during baton charges, while some reportedly suffered fractures.
The meeting further demanded that the federal government clarify the legal basis on which Imran Khan has been kept in solitary confinement and why restrictions have been imposed on meetings with him. The parliamentary party stated that if access is not granted, the legal team would also review all constitutional and legal aspects of the matter.
