The District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Landi Kotal, Khyber district, has been facing a severe water crisis for the past 40 days after its only functional tube well broke down, leaving patients and staff in distress.
According to health officials, the hospital is currently forced to rely on private water tankers to meet its daily needs. However, this temporary arrangement has significantly increased expenses and created further inconvenience for patients.
Patients and local residents have urged the Health Department and Public Health authorities to immediately repair the broken machinery or install a new tube well to ensure the provision of basic facilities at the hospital.
Medical Superintendent (MS) Ehtisham Khan confirmed that the hospital has been facing water supply issues for the past two months. Despite repeated repairs, the old tube well remains dysfunctional. He said the responsibility for its repair has now been assigned to the Frontier Corps (FC).
Khan added that for a permanent solution, a company will soon survey the hospital site to install a new tube well. He further stated that doctors have contributed funds through Zakat to support the project, expressing hope that the issue will be resolved once the new system is in place.
