The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) has recommended the inclusion of women in the upcoming “Khyber Aman Jirga”, stressing that female representation in peace dialogues and policy-making processes is essential and must not be overlooked.

The Commission stated that women’s participation is a constitutional requirement under Article 25(2) of the Constitution of Pakistan, and also mandatory under Section 6(b) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Empowerment Act, 2016.

According to the announcement, the Khyber Peace Jirga will be held on October 25 in Bara, Khyber district, and will be chaired by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Commission further highlighted that Pakistan is bound to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which calls for ensuring women’s voices are included in peacebuilding and decision-making forums.

The KPCSW has urged the Chief Secretary, district administration, and relevant authorities to guarantee women’s representation in the jirga. It also recommended that women from civil society be given the opportunity to participate to ensure an inclusive and comprehensive dialogue for lasting peace.
