KHYBER: Locals have demanded the inclusion of basic public needs in the Khyber Pass Economic Corridor project and its early implementation.
Addressing a press conference at the District Press Club Khyber, former Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari said the project, supported by the World Bank, could become a milestone for regional development.
He said the proposed expressway from Matani to Torkham should be developed with special consideration for local communities, adding that water, health, education, and infrastructure facilities must also be included in the project.
Shinwari said the feasibility study is still in its early stage, and public consultation should be ensured. He stressed that priority should be given to improving health and education services in Landi Kotal, including better facilities at the district headquarters hospital.

He said local interests must be safeguarded during project execution to ensure minimal impact on the population.
