In a controversial move, government jobs in Khyber’s Bara Tehsil are now being allocated through a lottery system, bypassing merit-based processes.

According to sources, the Local Government and Rural Development Department conducted a lottery to distribute jobs in various Village Councils within the district, instead of holding tests and interviews for candidates as required.

Sources revealed that the positions were awarded at the Municipal Corporation building in Bara, where paperwork was processed, but instead of evaluating candidates based on qualifications and experience, the jobs were decided through a random draw. This has raised serious concerns about the integrity of the recruitment process.

Local educated and informed circles in Bara have strongly criticized this approach, calling it an insult to merit and a setback for qualified individuals.

They have urged the government to establish a clear, transparent procedure for job allocation, suggesting that if the lottery method is to be used, it should apply to higher positions as well, to prevent any perception of discrimination or unfairness.
