The federal government has started considering handing over the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to the provinces.
Federal Minister Das Kohistani said that after the 18th Amendment, most powers now lie with the provinces, therefore the distribution of financial assistance can also be managed by provincial governments.

He said that some provinces have also raised this demand; however, a final decision will be made after consultations with coalition partners and other political parties.
The federal minister clarified that there is no proposal under consideration to abolish the Benazir Income Support Programme.
