MARDAN – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested five individuals, including an anaesthesia technician from Toru Hospital, on charges of involvement in illegal kidney transplants, and sealed a private hospital on Shamsi Road.

According to details, an FIA team comprising five members arrived at Toru Hospital last evening and detained the on-duty anaesthesia technician, transferring him to an undisclosed location.

In a written letter to the District Health Officer (DHO) and the concerned police station, the hospital’s Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) stated that five unidentified men, identifying themselves as FIA officials, had apprehended the technician from his residential quarters.

In a parallel operation, the FIA sealed a private hospital located on Shamsi Road, Mardan, and took four more individuals into custody. Health Department sources said the action was carried out over allegations of illegal kidney transplants.

Confirming the operation, Mardan DHO Dr. Muhammad Shoaib said that, based on the DMS’s letter, the matter had been reported to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Director General of Health. He added that the Health Department is in constant contact with the FIA.

Sources revealed that a network involved in illegal kidney transplants, including doctors, has been active in the region for some time. The group had reportedly rented a bungalow on Jail Road, Mardan, for their activities. The FIA has expanded the scope of its investigation, with more arrests expected.
