LANDI KOTAL: Pakistani transporters and drivers on Thursday launched a protest sit-in in the Khyber Takia area of Landi Kotal, demanding the safe return of transporters, drivers, and vehicles that have been stranded in Afghanistan for the past eight months.

Speaking at the protest, transporter Rehman Zeb Afridi warned that if the stranded Pakistani drivers, transporters, and their vehicles are not allowed to return by Sunday, the protesters will block the Pakistan-Afghanistan highway and expand the sit-in into an indefinite protest.

The protesters urged senior authorities in both Pakistan and Afghanistan to take immediate practical steps to facilitate the return of the stranded individuals and their vehicles.

They said that hundreds of families have been facing severe difficulties due to the prolonged delay and called for urgent action to ensure the safe and timely repatriation of the transporters and drivers.

The demonstrators stressed that resolving the issue would help ease the hardships of those affected and allow them to return home safely after months of uncertainty.

The Torkham border crossing is one of the most important trade gateways between Pakistan and Afghanistan, handling thousands of travelers and commercial vehicles annually. Repeated border closures and security-related restrictions over recent months have disrupted trade flows and stranded transporters on both sides of the border.
