On the call of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA), government employees staged a large-scale protest at Bajaur Press Club on December 30.
The protest was attended by the All Teachers Association, various teachers’ organizations, representative bodies of government employees, and other government staff.
Addressing the protesters, President of Wahdat-e-Asatiza and All Teachers Association Bajaur, Taseer Jan; General Secretary and President of Milgari Ustazan, Wahab Jan; Senior Vice President Umar Khattab Umar Khel; Khan Zareen of Tanzeem-e-Asatiza; Jahangir Khan of PTF; Salahuddin of Insaf Teachers Association; Muhammad Hakeem and Nazir Safi of the Paramedics Association; Muhammad Daud from colleges; Ayoob of SST, and other speakers rejected pension reforms, privatization, the CPF policy, and heavy taxes imposed on government employees.
The speakers demanded that the government issue the DRA allowance to government employees on the pattern of the federal government, announce the upgradation of all teaching cadres at the earliest, regularize contract teachers, and ensure the appointment of Class IV employees on a permanent basis instead of daily wages.
They also demanded the restoration of the son quota.
The speakers said that all teachers are highly educated and trained and do not need any teaching license, and urged the government to withdraw the decision regarding the teaching license.
The protest leaders warned that if their demands were not accepted, they would not hesitate to make any sacrifice on the call of AGEGA leadership, and that the future course of action would be announced in accordance with the directions of the leadership.
